Brief Candles – Fractured Days

Stumbled across this Milwaukee, WI band Brief Candles today as their song “The Sentiment” was featured as today’s KEXP Song of the Day. This is definitely a nice, warm and noisy 90s alterno-throwback shoegaze kind of album with a lot of noisy bass, noisy fuzzed out guitars and barely audible vocals. All of the good elements for a nice fuzzed-out experience, with some blissful harmonies and melodies layed all over the top of it. The requisite quiet moments of muted guitars are all here as well, and while overall the album is a bit of an enigmatic mush, it all sounds really, really good and perfectly appeals to my inner alternative rock, obligatory MBV mentioning throwback self.
