Class Actress - Rapprocher

Class Actress debut 2010 EP Journal Of Ardency was definitely one of my favorite EPs of last year and showed some incredible style and promise, and now the full length debut has been announced. The album will be called Rapprocher and will be released on Carpark Records on October 18th. There are also some limited tour dates out there right now on the west coast and in NYC, but expect more to be announced as the album release gets closer. Check out a stream of the first track released from the album called “Keep You” and check out the track listing and tour dates in the press release below.

“Keep You” by Class Actress from Rapprocher

Rapprocher is an 11-song journey through the push and pull of a tumultuous love affair. The debut full-length album from Class Actress will be released October 18 via Carpark Records (Beach House, Toro Y Moi). The set is the follow up to their 2010 EP Journal of Ardency, which was released on Chris Taylor’s (of Grizzly Bear) Terrible Records. Class Actress will head west for a short run of shows in early July before returning to New York for a July 28 date at Pier 54 with Metronomy.

Elizabeth Harper is the creative voice behind Class Actress. The Brooklyn-by-way-of-Los Angeles musician teamed up with producers Mark Richardson and Scott Rosenthal to create their sound, described by New York Magazine as “unabashedly slick electro-pop beats juxtaposed with coy, romantically depressed vocals courtesy of star-in-the-making Elizabeth Harper.” With this album, Class Actress has crafted sensual music about tragic romance and the eternal longing for all the things you can’t have. Rapprocher is a love letter telling the story of a relationship that’s yearning to go another round.

The album sees Harper playing a similar role to Journal of Ardency’s playful lovelorn diva, but it pushes the EP’s proto-electro revisionism into new directions. Tracks like “Love Me Like You Used To” and “Hanging On” swaddle the record’s heavy disco beats in lacy sheets of delay, and the bouncing bass of “Weekend” make it a prime candidate for a feel-good summer hit. Harper’s secrets and Richardson’s beats liberate the listener and freedom reigns on the dance floor.

CLASS ACTRESS Press Quotes
“Harper very well may be the bona fide, titillating artist we’ve been waiting for since the queen of pop traded in raw sexuality for a red string-bracelet… one hell of a class act.” – V Magazine

“an alluringly precise recapturing of the winning chill of early ’80s electro-pop, with some light hauteur keeping the mood severe, never optimistic.” – New York Times

“[Harper's] passion proves to be the same kind of compelling counterweight to frosty sonics that helped make the music of her influences so memorable.” – Pitchfork “Rising”

“melancholic yet bouncy tracks steeped in the gloom of the glory days of ’80s synth-pop” – Out
