Portishead burst back onto the scene a couple of years ago with their first album in a long while, appropriately titled Third. But I have been wanting to take a trip back to their debut for a while here on the throwback, and today is the day. They really were the penultimate band of the acid jazz, chilled out era that kind of sprung up around the mid-90s. Nobody did it with more style and feeling than Portishead, and it is no surprise that their old material stands up superbly to this day and doesn’t sound dated and sounds as fresh as ever. These guys do this stuff better than anyone else, and they have been killing it since the beginning. I thought I would focus on some lesser known tracks from this stellar album, “Sour Times” and “Glory Box” everyone has heard to death, so here’s some lesser known ones.
