New Website Feature: The Concert Calendar

Posted February 4th, 2010 ·

Sup peeps and peepettes, BVaz here with a little bit of a website update. I have been thinking and pondering for a while on a way to get a good and comprehensive upcoming concert listing for the DFW area and I think we have finally got something pretty good in place here. I have set up the official DBF Music Concert Calendar here on the site for all upcoming indie rock and such forth shows coming up in the DFW area. I am basically compiling all of the local show info I can get my hands on for bands in the indie scene (for lack of a better term) or bands that we would generally cover here on the site and putting it all up there for you guys to access and keep track of. I remember when I was back in Chicago we had the great Oh My Rockness which listed pretty much everything, so you weren’t in danger of missing a show, so hopefully I can be somewhat helpful to the concert-going public of DFW in a similar way here.

Anyway, the full concert listing page is here which has all the upcoming shows (if I’m missing one you think needs to be up there you can always let me know). Additionally, this new feature allows you to subscribe to the concert calendar by either RSS or iCalendar. If you subscribe by RSS, the feed will update every time I add a show, so it will pop up with the new additions once you subscribe to the feed. So if a Dr. Dog show gets announced and added, it will notify you if you are subscribed to the feed. The other cool option is that you can subscribe to the iCalendar feed which will automatically update with all of the dates when you subscribe to it in iCalendar, or you can also subscribe to it in Google Calendar. This will allow you to keep the show list integrated in a more robust calendar program so you can sync it to your phone, etc. and you can set your calendar program to automatically refresh/update the calendar so as I add stuff to it, it will automagically show up in your calendar.

You will also notice that the next 10 upcoming shows in town are going to be listed in the top left sidebar of every page for your reference as well. Hopefully with the subscription options and the full concert listing this will be a handy service for you indie music peeps in the DFW area, so check out our new calendar and get to some shows!
