R.E.M. – Document [Throwback Thursday]

Posted January 21st, 2010 · Artists: R.E.M.

Today I thought we would revisit the back catalog of R.E.M. I previously touched on Murmur for this feature way back when, and now I thought I would bring up their really big jump into the mainstream consciousness record, Document. This record is of course most well known for including the two first mega-hits for the band – It’s The End of the World (As We Know It) and The One I Love. Now those are both great songs, no doubt about it, but this is a great album outside of those two songs so I wanted to write this to focus on two of the lesser known songs that I really love from the album. Top to bottom the album is generally solid, and all of this earlier R.E.M. still resonates with me since I was huge into them (specifically their earlier stuff) back in high school. They had such a solid track record of putting together so many great songs, and these are two examples of ones where they not only had the mega-hits, but they had these other great lesser-known songs that you can still really appreciate after all this time.
