Mew’s latest release with an insanely long title, which we will just refer to as “No More Stories”, came out last week without much fanfare but I have to say I am digging this one big time. The songs are slightly off-kilter and have that start/stop uneasiness to them a little bit but the payoffs are great when they hit some epic transition out of nowhere. This album is filled with some great moments that start with you thinking “where are they going with this….oh wait….there it is…..hell yes”.

Some unique instrumentation and effects make their appearance throughout as well as some children’s choir esque vocals and lots of falsettos but it all ultimately contributes to the epic feel of the record, which is really a lot of fun and great to listen to. It is a little scatterbrain but in reality that just keeps it really fresh as I have been listening to it in my car solidly for about a month now and am still not even close to sick of it. Some cool tracks are “Introducing Palace Players” with its minimalist guitar leading into an epic outro, “Silas the Magic Car” with the uber-falsetto vocals and “Hawaii” with its electro-indie take on island style music I guess. “Vaccine” has some great transitions and moments in it, and the album just has a lot of cool moments and it really keeps you engaged getting from one to the other. This is really worth checking out for sure.

I will say I am not super familiar with classic Mew material, but even not knowing a ton about them I really dig this album and recommend you guys check it out if you want something that is fun but also has a lot of uniqueness and edgy moments to it to keep things interested. Would love to see this stuff live but I don’t think they are coming near here, but if you get a chance they will be at the following dates upcoming (soon!):
