Matt & Kim – House of Blues Cambridge Room – 7/11/09
Posted July 20th, 2009 · Artists: Matt & Kim
This was originally supposed to be a free ‘Bacardi Live Tour’ when I first heard about it, but as time got closer to the date of the scheduled show (which was listed on last.fm and M&K’s web site) there was still no ticket or RSVP information so we all wondered what the hell was going on. Well apparently it ended up that they canceled the B-Live part of it and Matt & Kim quickly announced a show at the HOB Cambridge Room and tickets went on sale about a week before the actual show. They made reference themselves to this whole saga and basically said “we didn’t think anyone would show up”, but as you can see from the crowd the HOB small room was pretty packed out as M&K brought their edgy street music to the peeps and once again killed it in major fashion.
I first saw Matt & Kim earlier in the year at the Granada in the tough ‘opening for Cut Copy’ slot, and they passed with flying colors on that. I have to say their set on this night seemed kind of short as a headliner but they still brought maximum party and maximum dance jams. I think since they have such short and sweet material they maybe wowed a little more in the opener scenario, but they headlined this one perfectly and once they hit ‘Daylight’ and ‘Good Old Fashioned Nightmare’ everyone was going nuts.
Once again Kim had the biggest grin imaginable on her face the whole time and they both just generally seemed happy and excited to be playing to the crowd, which is always nice, and the crowd and M&K were part of a big love fest the whole time. The energy was once again great and the sound was once again great. Kim even jumped out into the crowd to do a little crowd surfing, which is always awesome and fairly rare at Dallas shows. So they once again killed it, and it was cool of them to put together this show after the scheduled Bacardi show fell apart. It was great to see them again and this is one of those bands that is really hot right now in 2009, but also backs it up with a great high energy live show.
