Open Letter to The Granada Theater

Dear Granada Theater -

We have had some good times – no, some great times.  You bring some really good acts to town and although your sound varies from good to pretty bad, I’m not sure that is your fault most of the time.  But, that doesn’t mean you are without faults.  For example, what is up with waiting so long between acts?  You don’t need an hour of no live music between the opener and the headliner.  Once the headliner’s equipment is set up, let them play.  I’m kind of tired of waiting on these inexplicably long delays.

But that is neither here nor there – the reason I am writing this is because of Grizzly Bear last night.  In short, Grizzly Bear ruled, but you sucked.

First, what was up with that giant line?  How many years have you been in operation?  Can your employees not handle checking people in for will call for a sold out show?  I know the opening band, We Are Magic, was not too pleased with the sparse crowd, and it didn’t have to be that way – we were all waiting just outside ready to see some music, but the difficulty in getting people through the door delayed 100s of people’s entry for an unreasonable amount of time.

Second, you gave away my friend’s credit card to some random person.  Look, it’s a bar, I realize mistakes happen, but I really hope you follow up in your promise to her to give her a free ticket, because there is no excuse for handing someone’s credit card to someone who is not the owner of the card.

Finally, you’re in Texas, Granada Theater.  It gets hot.  REALLY hot.  Yesterday was no different, and yet, you seemingly just didn’t feel like turning on the air conditioning to the theater until it was already full.  When it’s mid-June and 100 degrees during the day, you have to run the A/C for a significant amount of time before the doors even open to get the place cool.  Once everyone walks in, it’s already too late and it’ll never cool down.  Most embarrassing, though, was that at the end of a 100 degree day, it was signifcantly cooler outside than in the building.

I realize 100s of Grizzly Bear hipster megafans create a lot of heat, but it was so hot inside, from the moment I walked in, that it was almost unbearable.  Maybe I’m wrong about the A/C.  Maybe the air temperature of the theater was 70 degrees when you opened the doors and mysteriously went to 90 when I walked in.  I guess that is possible

Anyways, I just wanted to say that I love you, Granada, and I wish you the best and I really want to keep coming, but last night was the suck.
