Friday Five – SXSW One Week Away
Posted March 13th, 2009 · Artists: Animal Collective, Radiohead
This is a rather big week here with all of the basketball going on, selection sunday and of course St. Patrick’s Day festivities on Saturday. Quite a few news stories out there as well.
1. SXSW Is One Week Away
Technically, the film/interactive has already started I think, but for us we will be down there starting on Thursday. Should be a good time, it is our first time going so we are pumped.
Also in the news today, Metallica has been confirmed for Friday night at Stubb’s, expect insanity.
Also, Sched has posted a great list of apps to snag before heading to Austin for those with iPhones.
2. Some Big Shows Coming To Dallas
Three pretty big time shows got announced for our city of Dallas this week. First, U2 announced their 360 stadium tour coming up in the fall that will make a stop at the new Cowboys stadium (no specific date announced yet). Then David Byrne announced a date in June at the Majestic Theater (tickets on sale tomorrow). Finally, today, My Bloody Valentine announced that they will annihilate Dallas with sound at the Palladium in April as part of a small club tour around Coachella.
3. Old Folks Review Animal Collective
This was getting around a lot earlier in the week, a group of olds review Young Jeezy and Animal Collective. Surprisingly they actually echoed one of my sentiments on “My Girls” and the album in general, namely the repetitiveness.
4. The Joaquin Phoenix Weirdness Continues
After the now classic Letterman appearance, now we have some more action. Though this stuff is all likely completely staged at this point, at his ‘hip-hop’ show he apparently jumped into the crowd and attacked a heckler while Casey Affleck’s ‘documentary’ camera was conveniently running. The footage keeps getting taken off Youtube so if the above video is gone just do some searching.
5. Radiohead Mentions Summer Tour, New Album
Nothing really to say except awesome, hope the tour comes somewhere near here or somewhere I can go. The shows we saw last year were fucking awesome.
And the powerball is:

As always, leave your five in the comments…
