It was just a matter of time until the great They Might Be Giants graced the annals of Throwback Thursday. Though they are fairly ridiculous you just have to love the craziness of their songs and their lyrics. Through all the years they have remained a fairly unique and completely offbeat take on music, with preposterous lyrics beautifully weaved into a plethora of genres of music. Not to mention they actually put on a fantastic live show as well and it is extremely upbeat and uptempo compared to what you may think. Despite the insanity, they still just want to party.

Anyway, my first ever exposure to these guys, like a lot of people, was through the great album ‘Lincoln’ which had their first really big hit ‘Ana Ng’ on it. The song still holds up today just for the pure comedy of it as well as the catchiness of it. Pretty much everyone knows this song, and it is still one of TMBG’s finest moments. It set the stage for their whole career thereupon, and it is just a great song. Also on here you have some great classics like ‘Purple Toupee’, ‘Piece of Dirt’ and ‘Snowball In Hell’. While it may not be as fully developed and excessive as some of the later efforts, this was really a first glance into the wild world of TMBG for a lot of people, myself included, and fortunately they are keeping up the insanity to this day. As I said they are great live so be sure to check them out if you get a chance to see them.
