Mix Tape Monday: Kings of Convenience

Posted June 30th, 2008 · Artists: Kings of Convenience

This is a band I discovered kind of randomly several years ago, and they have since kind of disappeared and I’m not really sure what is going on with them, if anything anymore. They are a Norweigian band who released their last album back in 2004, and have played a few concerts recently in Norway but nothing major, and I haven’t really seen any official word on a new album or anything really. The singer Erlend Øye was working in another band, The Whitest Boy Alive, whom I’m not that familiar with, but what I have heard has been quite good (it is more uptempo/indie/band sounding). According to wikipedia he is now back to working on a third album for these guys. The sound of the band is a very chilled out, Simon & Garfunkel with jazz/classical elements infused in there. I think the sound is really cool, and I really love the album “Riot on an Empty Street”. It is one of those albums where pretty much every song is solid gold, and from top to bottom is incredibly strong. Also, for you Feist lovers out there, she guested on two tracks on the album, including “Know-How” below. Again, no real solid word on anything new, but even still this last album is certainly worth tracking down and checking out, as it is a real gem.
