Mix Tape Monday: US Open – Fore!
Posted June 16th, 2008 ·
Well, as you know, the US Open was tied and sent to a playoff by (who else) Tiger with a putt on the 72nd hole of the tournament yesterday, so they are playing the 18 hole playoff right now actually. Tiger’s performance was really probably the most impressive one I’ve ever seen from him with the way he played on Friday and Saturday. Sunday he wasn’t that great but Mediate wasn’t able to close out unfortunately, so today it continues. So in honor of the tournament continuing today, I thought we should revisit the classic Huey Lewis & The News record “Fore!”. Granted there are pretty much no albums that directly relate to golf, and this one doesn’t really relate to golf in any way but the title either, but who fucking cares? Their early material was a little too “new wave” for my tastes, but they really came into their own with “Sports”. This certainly has to be their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is “Hip to be Square”, a song so catchy, most people probably don’t listen to the lyrics, but they should, because it’s not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it’s also a personal statement about the band itself. Enjoy the US Open.
