Nada Surf, always good stuff, despite the fact I miss the old songs still. Well, we ventured up to Ribfest Chicago on Lincoln Ave for a great mix of ribs, beer and rock n roll last night. The ribs were tasty, Nada Surf was pretty solid, and as you can see from the picture above, Lincoln was extremely displeased at what has become of Illinois and the United States in the time since his passing. It is such a gigantic Lincoln head on the sign, but it isn’t happy Lincoln, or even distinguished Lincoln. I would describe his look as extremely judgmental, maybe disgusted, or extremely displeased.
Anyway, Nada Surf of course played a majority of material from their new album “Lucky”, including “See These Bones”, “Whose Authority”, “I Like What You Say” and “Weightless”. They hit with “Happy Kid”, “Hi-Speed Soul”, “Inside of Love” and “Fruit Fly” from the great “Let Go”. They also played a few off of “Weight Is A Gift”. But of course, none off of “High/Low” and “Proximity Effect”, but that is to be expected, especially with this being a festival and the crowd wanting to hear the hits. I always hold out hope though everytime I see them that they will drop some “Hyperspace” on me. They were pretty good, the crowd was pretty into it. There were a lot of people very full on beer and ribs dancing/stumbling around during the show. But they did manage to get some choreographed arm swaying going on “Inside of Love” (see above). Another good show from Nada Surf (I think this is the 6th time I’ve seen them maybe), and as always I recommend checking out their live show. They have always been pretty solid in that department and I haven’t seen a bad show from them yet. So cheers on the ribs and the rock, both were tasty, as were the beers.
