Frightened Rabbit – The Midnight Organ Fight

After watching Frightened Rabbit I had to go buy their latest album, which came out in mid April. In addition to Daigle’s comments I must add the following: Frightened Rabbit are my favorite surprise of the year. I knew nothing about them, save a listen on their myspace, going into the show. I was completely blown away. Incredibly tight and energized live show with great banter as Daigle mentioned.
Hearing Frightened Rabbit play live was sonicly amazing, but due to the Scottish brogue or possibly the in-your-fucking-face live sound I couldn’t pick out the lyrics as well as I would have liked. After hearing their latest album, ‘The Midnight Organ Fight’, I can assure you their lyrics are ace. For instance, “It takes more than fucking someone to keep yourself warm/ You won’t find love in a hole”, from ‘Keep Yourself Warm’.
Since I’ve been listening to this great album I have been racking my brain to come up with something that I can relate it to. Here is where I am so far, you have the raw and honest nature of a Johnny Cash song, combined with the sense that each song could get to a crescendo that will make your chest explode. I can’t imagine listening to this record sitting all the way back in your chair. It is not fast paced in the way a band like Bloc Party plays, but it builds in a sense that you can’t let go of.
Basically, buy this motherfucker.
