VHS or Beta continues their touring off of their album from last year “Bring on the Comets” and made a stop into the Empty Bottle last night with fellow dance rockers Tigercity. This was a pretty good matching of musical styles for an opener/headliner. Tigercity was pretty good, they certainly have a kind of R&B/Disco meets rock kind of sound, and the crowd was getting some dancing going during their set.

I had seen VHS or Beta last year at the Subterranean, and they put on a great (if not the hottest temperature wise show of all time) show there, and this was more great stuff here. They hit through a great selection from both of their most recent albums. I watched the webcast from Coachella with these guys and I think the set list here was basically exactly the same as that set. Just as there they played one of their instrumental songs, which I thought was great. These guys’ old stuff basically sounds very Daft Punk-ish, and it’s nice to hear them go back to their dance roots occasionally. The set was great overall, hitting all the high points, though I still wish they would play “The Stars Where We Came From” live, but for whatever reason they don’t. These guys are great live, and last night the crowd was bouncing around for a lot of the set, so if you get a chance to check them out, I recommend it. They said this was the last night of their current tour, but I’m sure they’ll be hitting some late summer festivals or something.
