The Teenagers – Reality Check – Beggars XI Recording – 2008

Well I was hoping to post about these guys after seeing their show this week at the Abbey Pub, but since it is exams for me and the Abbey Pub is way north, I decided not to head up there. Anyway, since I missed going to their show, I thought I would do a post about their album. These guys are part of the 80′s retro new wave renaissance going on in music now. Their music certainly has that synthed out dance rock sound that we have seen lately from bands like Cut Copy and M83. The lyrics here a little more literal than with some of the other bands, and the vocals are kind of a singing/talking mix, which distinguishes it from some similar bands. It all results in a very cool sound, not really super polished like the other bands, kind of more dirty and raw, and the album has some great songs. They also have a song that is all about Scarlett Johansson, who doesn’t believe in monogamy. Weird but good. It’s too bad I missed their live show because I bet it was probably pretty cool. I would certainly say if you are into the 80s dance party revival going on nowadays, you should certainly check these guys out. They are still pretty new to the whole scene, but there is definitely a lot of potential there as well. They are still on their current US tour for a little while longer, then are hitting up Europe, Australia and Japan after that. Even though I missed them live, that doesn’t mean you have to:
