Mix Tape Monday – 4.28.08

Well I am right in the midst of exams right now, and it sucks, so I don’t really have anything super eloquent to say here. I decided to throw you guys some Honeycut. These guys are from the Bay area, and this album came out in 2006 and it is just greatness. I discovered them at the Download festival last year here in Chicago. They were playing maybe the second slot of the day, and there were maybe 20 people there when they went on, but they were awesome. Just great stage vibe, very danceable music, and the lead singer Bart Davenport’s stage moves are not only totally vintage Mick Jagger-style moves, but they were also the best I’ve seen in years. You also had RV Salters on keys with some solid stage moves as well. Just a great live band. You may have heard them as they had the honor of being in a Mac commercial last year, and their song “Exodus Honey” plays when you install Leopard on your Mac (or you start up your new Mac). That is a good song, but I haven’t included it here, because I like the more groove aspects of the band so I’ve highlighted that here. Anyway, this album is really solid, and I know they get into other projects so they may be on hiatus, but if for any reason they are playing near you, they put on a great show (doesn’t look like they have any dates currently) and are worth checking out.

And I am going to throw in a bonus selection here today from Athlete, who I saw a few weeks ago at Schuba’s. They sounded really good, and their album is pretty solid despite not getting really much attention, so just for the hell of it I thought I’d throw in “In The Library” in honor of my studying (or lack thereof), even though I am not in the library right now, nor do I plan on going, that is generally where a good amount of studying goes down, and probably where I should be right now.
Athlete – In The Library – From Beyond the Neighbourhood
And for the next selection, with the end of another school year upon us, I would like to dedicate this song to Teddy Salad.
My Robot Friend – Robot High School – From Robot High School
And because this is America, and only America could actually be the final selection in this post, and because I’ve already hi-jacked this post into total randomness, here is the classic punk rawkers Avail doing John Cougar’s classic Chevy commercial song. Peace.
