The floor was literally shaking at The Loft on Friday night. British Sea Power and Film School both put on a great show. We got to The Loft around 9:30 and there wasn’t many people there yet. My immediate reaction was, “Here comes another long drunk night at The Loft.” Especially considering the night when Bvaz and I went to MSTRKRFT and waited around until we both decided we were too drunk to stay any longer. But, things ended up kicking off in a timely manner.

Film School opened things up and I was very impressed with them. I didn’t really know much about em, and had only heard a handful of songs on their myspace page. I guess the crowd didn’t really know what to make of the show, because things started off like an 8th grade dance with everyone too timid to be the first to stand by the stage. By the time Film School got into their second song the crowd was well into it and up at the stage getting their faces rawked. The lead singer [Greg Burtens?] was wailing the shit out of his Tele Deluxe and was all over the stage swinging around like a mad man. After they had played about six songs they gracefully exited and left way for some BSP. I definitely recommend catching these guys [and girl] anytime you have a chance.

After a quick respite on the balcony I made my way back inside for British Sea Power. The crowd seemed to have grown quite a bit and everyone was packed up on the stage for these guys. Including myself, as you can see from my picture. They quickly started in with ‘Atom’ and continued to melt faces the rest of the night. I think they played about 15 songs, including most everything from ‘Do You Like Rock Music?‘. The highlight of the night was a ‘Waving Flags’ + ‘Great Skua’ combination that blew me away. I was really pleased that Yan and Hamilton sound just as good live as they do on the albums. BSP translates incredibly well live. Friday’s show had a ton of energy and I can’t imagine that anyone left disappointed. BSP even ended things up standing on top of there gear and we were treated to a stage dive from Hamilton.

All in all it was a great experience and I look forward to seeing British Sea power and Film School again. I do have one tiny complaint though. I think its about time for The Loft to upgrade their equipment. Unless you are up near the front of the stage the speakers and what not sound a touch overloaded. Not enough to ruin the night, but its time to sort that shit out.
