Brilliantine Mortality (British Sea Power @ The Loft)

Rheinborg also did a post on this show, so check that out because mine is not the same. First, Film School was ok, but they only played like 6 songs and just sort of took off….. Sure, there were like 18 people watching them but boo hoo, Film School. You’re there to open. Open the show with more than 20 minutes of music.

This reviewer, from Guide Live, wasn’t too crazy about the show, and I sort of agree with some of what he is saying. I felt like for the first half, British Sea Power just went through the motions, but once they got going, they were very good. In fact, by the end of the show, I feel like my brain had sort of melted. After the show, I was talking with a fellow partygoer and it went like this:

OtherGuy: Awesome show!
Daigle: Totally.
OtherGuy: What are you doing after the show?
Daigle: (Kind of weirded out) Uh, why?
OtherGuy: Want to grab a beer?
Daigle: Who are you? I normally don’t grab drinks with weird people from shows.
OtherGuy: It’s me, Rheinborg. You drove me here, remember?
Daigle: Oh yeah, sorry. British Sea Power melted my brain through the power of rock and roll.

Anyways, highlights for me were No Lucifer, Lights Out for Darker Skies and Carrion. Because of the fast nature of the show, no Blackout or Open the Door, unfortunately.

Good show, 3.5 out of 5.
