Tokyo Police Club @ House of Blues – 4/1/08

Posted April 7th, 2008 · Artists: Tokyo Police Club

So Marcus and I went to the House of Blues to see Tokyo Police Club and Eagle Seagull. I had been to the Ballroom there many times, but had never been to the Cambridge Room. The Cambridge Room is really small and intimate and super cool. Of course, this inspires a certain amount of rowdiness from the crowd as I think that some people believe that since they are so close, they are actually a part of the show by shouting out jokes or something, but I digress.

Eagle Seagull was already playing when we got there, but we ended up seeing maybe 6-8 of their songs, and I liked them a lot. They were using two keyboards or two guitars (or in one case, two basses) on every song, and their sound was really full top to bottom. They really sounded great; I hope they release some new material sometime soon.

Soon enough, Tokyo Police Club came on and they do NOT mess around in their shows. There are absolutely zero: jams, meanders, interludes, extra anything. They get hit the last note of their songs and shut it down. And considering every song is about 2:30 long, they ripped through probably what was their entire library in a very quick 60 minutes. From what I could tell, they played the entirety of A Lesson in Crime and many songs from their upcoming album. They were quick, efficient, energetic, loud and awesome. I give this show four stars out of five. Go check them out!
